The
Willow Farm is a unique family farm with diversified operations and a
strong commitment to the environment. The farm grows over one hundred
varieties of willows; produces windbreaks for large Midwest farms.
Created on site are hand crafted willow structures, furniture, and
home accessories. The farm also has an equestrian facility, sheep,
working dogs and abundant wild life.
A favorite activity for the visitors is to see the sheep dogs
demonstrate their skills in moving a mob of sheep seemingly at their
will from pasture to pasture or to their holding pens for the night.
The New Zealand Heading dog is a unique breed and rare in America. They
are highly intelligent, have great stamina and hardiness with a tremendous
ability for agility. The Willow Farm has a foundation female that was imported
from New Zealand and just recently bred with a Border Collie. Their first
litter of puppies arrived in late 2004.
Walking tours demonstrate to the visitors the beauty of a well-integrated
farm. The gardens alone are a testament to the value of recycling and
there are no pesticides or chemicals necessary as each part of the farm
provides a growth point for the next. The animals recycle plant waste
and their waste in turn benefit the plants. In essence, the by products
of this recycling are the furniture and willow products.
The Willow Farm would satisfy anyone interested in experiencing a day of
beauty, the outdoors and understanding a working farm in the Bay Area. |
